Since decades, the area of Alaotra, in the center of the Large Island, is one of the principal rice producing region of the country. But the state of the road which connects Vohidiala to Moramanga, on national road 2, makes it currently difficult to travel to this area. The rail company Madarail then decided, although this project does not appear in its short-term agenda, to offer to travellers two coaches of a capacity of a hundred persons each. The connection is programmed twice a week.
This is another way to discover this central region of Madagascar. The magnificient rice crop landscape is worth the travel. It is also an occasion to discover the population traditionally open to the foreigners.
