The lake itself is mysterious. The beautiful Tritiva lake born in a volcano crater keeps raising so far unanswered questions. A rural track built several years ago leads to its shores which break up with the standard Malagasy highlands’ canvas. The focus basically concentrates more accurately speaking on a couple of tightly intertwined trees protruding from the lake’ surface’s waters. The lake is said to have been the theater of the Malagasy version of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet story. The legend said that Ibeniomby and Ravolahanta would have voluntarily dropped in each other’s arms, then into the lake’s dark waters in order to preserve their forbidden love unblurred forever and ever. The story, as well as the lake’s natural beauty has been attracting visitors for years… and none of them is allowed to bath into it. Besides the local population and guides warn against the consumption of onions and pork before the visit.
Some six miles away from Antsirabe city towers a Tritriva volcanic waters lake which has not revealed all of its secrets yet.
