UNICEF – ENMG: Training of the judiciary on the rights of children

UNICEF and the National School of the Judiciary and Court Officers (ENMG) have organized a three-weeks training focusing on improving trainers’ ability to transmit efficiently and effectively the laws and procedures on the protection of children’s rights, on standardizing practices in courts and in police departments  concerning legislation in favor of children.

With the financial support from UNICEF, the training, whose closing ceremony was held yesterday, was attended by judges, representatives from the Ministries of Population and Public Health as well as investigators from the police including those of the National Gendarmerie and the National Police.

Noro Harimisa Razafindrakoto, Director of training at the ENMG, said the training is also targeted to leaders who, in turn, will take effective action concerning the respect and protection of the rights of children. “We brought together all actors involved in the issue. Already, I can say that the training is a success. The participants actively took part in discussions and exchanges. Now, I’m sure they are able to conduct education and awareness campaigns at the community level”, she said.

For her part, Sara Bordas Eddy, UNICEF’s Representative in Madagascar, reiterated UNICEF’s commitment to continue its actions for the consolidation of a judiciary in favor of children. “I hope that the materials and knowledge you have acquired in this course will be useful in carrying out your activities of supporting children”, she said.
