UNICEF: the government honors Bruno Maes

After working for five years with the United Nations Children’s Fund in Madagascar, Brunos Maes was promoted to the rank of Commander of the National Order by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pierrot Rajaonarivelo, yesterday in the ministry’s headquarters at Anosy. The resident Representative of UNICEF Madagascar leaves the country and will be heading for Chad where he has just been appointed.

A great defender of the children’s rights, Brunos Maes did not fail to mention and enumerate in his speech what are awaiting his successor. “In Madagascar, despite all the progress that have been made ​​during the past decade, much remains to be done to ensure that all children enjoy fully their rights,” he said in the presence of numerous guests and members of the diplomatic corps. He added that education, immunization, access to medicines and prevention against incurable diseases are among the organization’s priorities.

The Malagasy government, through the Minister Pierrot Rajaonarivelo, addressed its gratitude to the UNICEF’s representative. In brief, the Minister declared that “the decoration ceremony marks the deep appreciation of the Government of the transition of Bruno Maes’ well-accomplished mission which is witnessed by multiple support and actions in favor of Madagascar, in general, and of Malagasy children in particular”.
