Anosy: anti HAT demonstration repressed without clashes

The Madagasikara front successfully stage demonstrations in Anosy in front of the glass palace twice in a row. This place basically dedicated to the senate is being occupied by the members of the high authority of transition recently renamed High Council of Transition by Andry Rajoelina in December 2009. The three mobilities opposed to the imposed authorities would like to install transitional congress members, be it merely in a symbolic way. Beyond the symbolic battle, it is all about making one first step in institution. To this end, the three entities are squatting Anosy, and starting the process with the inauguration of a newly named place of  » Fihavanana « .  

The HAT musclemen are watching. They underwent their first couple of defeat when the opposition successfully staged demonstration on Monday June 18th. The soldiers armed with kalachnikov rifles removed the soundblasters, another symbolic act to be added up to abuses against freedom of speech. Soldiers were anyway unable to hinder the Madagasikara mobility from staging its rally. It is now a done deal although the opposition had to make do with a simple megaphone. Besides, this deterrent served the control of the news broadcasted on the radio by noon: « some of the three mobilities’ partisans were noticed in Anosy, the movement’s leaders still failed to appear, huge police presence was visible ».  

The maneuver is more that efficient since the opposition’s leaders actually failed to appear at the pledged time. « Things must be scouted, we cannot risk loosing our leaders who can be arrested at anytime », reported one of the movement’s animators. This extreme prudence has been reflected by Albert Zafy who has been remaining in his car during the whole of Monday’s demonstration. Even the Magro square’s loyal supporters thought twice before daring the move to Anosy. Tabera Randriamanantsoa subsequently called upon militants to join the demonstrators’ ranks in front of the glass palace.   

« The objectors have audacity; not that long ago they were locked in the Magro square, and today they are in Anosy, at the red zone’s heart « , noticed Desire Ramakavelo, member of the HAT. The retired general asked Colonel Vital to keep his word; the new Prime minister warned that « a rifle could eventually shoot relatives down ». The authorities are, therefore, pushing the soldiers to repress the movement, crying provocation and the creation of unrest. « These are not repression forces, because the crocodile is basically not mean, it is man who plays too close to the edge of the stream » he added word for word.  

The Rajoelina mobility accused the reactionaries of staging demonstrations in order to influence the African Union’s Commission’s President expected in Antananarivo on January 21st, 2010. It would actually justify the judicial choice of Anosy, as Mr. Jean Ping is supposed to stay in the Carlton hotel. During his mission, the African Union’s representative might « insistently » urge the imposed authorities to resume a national unity transitional scheme. Guinea is doing so, why not Madagascar?
