The HAT’s national conference failed to settle the crisis, the SADC mediating anew

Doc. Leonardo Simao is joining Antananarivo in order to carry mediation on between the Malagasy political crisis’ genuine actors, namely Andry Rajoelina, propelled on top by a putsch in 2009, and Marc Ravalomanana, the elected but ousted president, who refrained from attending the national conference patched up by the dictating power and one part of the civil society

The remaining acting diplomats definitely noticed that the ceremonious meetings held from September 13th to the 18th were a ceremonious shot in the dark. The situation is even on its way to become worse than ever, because of the referendum related campaign dimmed to run from October 2nd.

The SADC is, on this account, duly recovering its mediation role, certainly not the High Authority of Transition’s liking. I doesn’t intend to recover the negotiation table, on which the Maputo and Addis Ababa agreements are waiting for it.
