Year 2013’s presidential tournament: the Ravalomanana political sphere’s candidates

Marc Ravalomanana himself commits in the electoral campaign in favor of Dr Jean Louis Robinson. It was merely a beginning. His political adversaries were finding Lalao Ravalomanana’s political aura beside him hard enough to cope with. Then the former president appeared thereafter on a giant screen to promise his blessing in live to his former minister’s campaign. This last stroke makes Dr. Jean Louis Robinson the elections’ first round’s leading favorite with 20% of approval rating. So heavy is the Ravalomanana couple’s political weight. No wonder after all. Marc Ravalomanana was elected for the last time in 2007 with 54% at the first round.
the NY AVANA party’s candidate nearly needs not to bother presenting his program. An alliance with the Ravalomanana and the motto « the people first » proves much more than enough. Promising to make Lalao Ravalomanana his prime minister, could he get elected, seals his alliance with the Ravalomanana political sphere. His adversaries dubb him a scarface and an opportunist building on his parents’ reputation as mere achievement. The candidate does not mind.  He has done nothing wrong and never swapped side out of greed. Nothing but a long lasting unity is being consolidated.

Radavidson Andriamparany may have broken the same unity long ago, yet remained a potential option for the Ravalomanana political sphere anyway. His political experience, his capability and his position in the FJKM church’s leadership could have made him the man of the situation. His campaign actually recovered the famous cues « Fahamarinana » and  « Fahamasinana » previously used by Marc Ravalomanana with success. Still, his will to walk alone made the renewal of broken vows impossible.

Fetison Rakoto Andrianirina used to serve a prison sentence behind bars as political prisoner when Andry Rajoelina’s transitional dictatorship was at its high. Then, he left the Ravalomanana political sphere to try the mediation’s suit on. Following his failure to avail, he found himself granted a position in the RPSD party’s leadership, democratic and social ideals of which he shared, but this did not last much longer either. In the end, he now runs the presidential elections in the name of his own RDS party, but stands very little chances to break through.

Rajemison Rakotomaharo and his MAMAFISOA party cannot claim any much better position than his. The former president of the Senate cannot afford the expenses required by a competition of wealth first and foremost. His stay in Geneva as ambassador did not contribute as much as expected to his cause. And, as for Noelson William, he left no long enough term footprints as labor and social laws minister to be widely remembered. This attorney, now serving as advisor at the Supreme Court of Appeal, presented as presidential candidate by the MITM party, advocates national unity, decentralization of power and a fair distribution of national wealth.
