The ousted president did not appreciate mediator Ablassé Ouedraogo's personal initiative to intervene several times in the Malagasy press declaring that game was over on October 06th, 2009. Marc Ravalomanana was therefore compelled to challenge this foregone conclusion, and denounced the AU mediating consultant's attitude. The meeting between both figures has been everything but diplomatic in Addis Ababa.

Addis Ababa: Marc Ravalomanana disowns Ablassé Ouedraougo

Marc Ravalomanana told the story to his partisans gathered in the Magro square in order to demonstrate at last that one more quarter is still to be played. Ablassé Oudraougo, eager to welcome Marc Ravalomanana in the Ethiopian capital, got a piece of his mind in return. « I told him to leave, that I don’t need him « , replied the ousted President. Quite angered at that time, Marc Ravalomanana failed to comply with the reception protocol. « We told them that we had rather find another hotel than the one they booked for us », he told.

According to Marc Ravalomanana, Mr Ouedraogo has been surprised by such a reaction. The ousted President thinks to be right and makes the President of the African Union’s Commission his ally. He argued that Jean Ping did not support the mediator’s words to the press concerning October 06th in Antananarivo. Ablassé Ouedraogo had actually emphasized that, in accordance with the agreements signed in Maputo, the transitional president’s seat would allegedly be granted to Andry Rajoelina.

This affirmation caused resentment from the elected President. His mobility’s delegation chief accepted the idea of an Andry Rajoelina on top of the transition, if and only if he gave up running the 2010 presidential elections. The leader, Marc Ravalomanana, restored order in that mist, with the whole of his mobility’s support. He actually calls upon a neutral government to prepare the elections, and will neither accept to pledge the top of the transitional regime to putsch makers nor make Madagascar a bad example.

For the ousted president, the Addis Ababa meeting will be again the opportunity to debate the designation of transitional leaders. « It is very relevant for us to prepare neutral and transparent elections… therefore it is as so important to put a neutral transitional regime in place « , said Marc Ravalomanana. He is keen on respecting the Maputo agreements for the sake of the Nation’s supreme interest. As the Ratsiraka mobility designated another person, Mangalaza Eugene, as Prime minister, the Rajoelina mobility should also propose someone else but Anry Rajoelina as transitional president.

In spite of Ablassé Ouedraogo’s statement, the meeting of October 06th only serves as a rehearsal for the ultimate negotiation round to be held in Addis Ababa. Andry Rajoelina fell in the trap when appointing Eugene Mangalaza as new Prime minister, an act having the value of a foregone self proclaim as Transition’s President. Nothing is yet decided since the Roindefo II government members are still in place whereas the Coup originated Prime minister remains stubbornly entrenched in his palace. In any case, sanctions will only be lifted when the power sharing agreements and the inclusive national unity government come into force.
