The allied civil society organizations' mediation work with the four political mobilities has led to recommendations so that the meeting meant to be held in Addis Ababa Ethiopia turns out a happy ending for the crisis. The easy "communication between Malagasy" did not solve the problem.

Alliance of the civil society, in order to ease the quest for solution to Addis Ababa

The civil society’s alliance is calling upon the four political mobilities engaged in negotiations in Addis Ababa, from November 03rd to the 05th, 2009, to prove their genuine care for the Malagasy people’s sufferings. The alliance has tried to re-launch the dialogue between political protagonists in order to find a consensual solution to the crisis. The members of the civil society are considering the appointment in Ethiopia as the ultimate negotiation round. They are, therefore, daring mobilities « to demonstrate the accuracy of their respective care for the Nation’s supreme interest through sacrifices and concessions » at the end of the meeting.

« The meeting’s outcome must be the end to the crisis and the population’s sufferings « , argued the alliance of the civil society. It actually wants a clear roadmap to be established for the Transition, and recommends means to control the execution of this plan. « The Transition must respect the principles of the democracy, guarantee individual liberties, respect transparency and good governance ». According to the alliance, this period is dedicated to « set up a new steady Republic and break the crisis cycle ».

The civil society members are also addressing international mediators, and calling upon them to « display impartiality and non interference ». The single long term solution is, according to the alliance, based on national unity and on inclusiveness, and must be « in favor of the whole Malagasy people ». « The international mediators must make sure that conditions for negotiation’s success are fulfilled », recommended the alliance. On the other hand, its statement is a cause for doubts, when it is inviting mediators to stick out to the previously written agreements. The single signatures between the four mobilities have, so far, been laid on the Maputo agreements and on the transitional charter.

« Everything must be done so that the Addis Ababa meeting leads to an agreement for a peaceful and neutral Transition » summarized Lanto Randriamanantena, while commenting the statement produced by the civil society’s alliance. He emphasized the mobilities’ duty of accepting the compromise and the consensus in the name of the Nation’s supreme interest. The civil society mediators have noticed the « confusion as for the various mobility alliance balances, confusion even more fuelled by oppositions of interpretation ».

The alliance of the civil society used to be invigorated by a potential Malagasy made solution in collaboration with the International Contact Group. And she has complained that the civil society had been poorly considered in the crisis resolution process. « The intervention of the alliance, as a civil society’s entity, has spared everyone from the threat of a shock between the political mobilities « . This civil society’s representative entity is now claiming to be impartial in the quest for a solution to the political crisis in Madagascar.
