What on earth is the Ravalomanana sphere doing?

Lalao Ravalomanana’s candidacy got rejected by the Special Electoral Court. Her sphere’s replacement candidate got entitled to the same fate, although the newly adopted electoral rules do give the political spheres affected by the new Special Electoral Court’s decision, the right to appoint their own replacement candidate. Mamy Rakotoarivelo was relying on the undisputable logic of his sphere’s nominee, and even more on the political need to have his sphere in, for elections without the Ravalomanana sphere would possibly not be inclusive Lire la suite »

A fake democrat comes to term with his defeat

“chosing the one they truly love in the run of elections is a basic human right to the Malagasy people.” The speech does not really suit a putsch maker who ousted a democratically elected President. Yet, Andry Rajoelina’s disappointment is clearly obvious. The transitional leader is attempting to appear as the solution to a crisis, which he unleashed, causing 5 years of more and more accurate poverty and rampaging violence for the sake of a dubious rule. Mission accomplished for the new Electoral Court. The Electoral Commission is back on track

In spite of hesitant steps from the main political decision makers, namely from a ruling power yearning to remain a ruling power at all costs, the International Contact Group’s mediation, the SADC, the AU and the International Community as a whole seem to have won the day, tactically by evicting the unwanted candidates and strategically by depriving the Malagasy political crisis from any sixth birthday. Presidential race in 2013 with 33 candidates on the starting line

The presidential tournament seems bound to develop in Madagascar after already a couple of postponements in a row in 2013. October 25th and December 20th for the elections’ rounds may not comply with the law’s requirements, yet the exceptional situation acknowledged by the Special Electoral Court does away with the issue. The electoral process is now allowed to resume its race against the clock. Lire la suite »

The presidential elections will have to take place on October 25th

As a result to the ejection of several candidates prompted by the International Community and executed by the Electoral Court, the Electoral Commission in charge of the organization of elections issued the electoral schedule. The presidential election's first round will develop on October 25th. Its knock out round together with legislative elections will come true on December 20th. Envoys sent by the International Contact Group led by Joaquim Chissano, mediator in chief and former Mozambican president, is currently supporting the on going process on the ground, in spite of the growing grudge from quite a large part of the national political class Lire la suite »

Misunderstanding on top of the Ravalomanana political sphere

Lalao Ravalomanana, the presidential candidate now expelled by the Special Electoral Court from the race, has officially called her supporters upon keeping their nerves. In her statement, the former first lady made clear, that she would personally decide about the way to carry on with the struggle she has been leading over the latest months. Mamy Rakotoarivelo, the current political sphere's number two, does not seem to react the same way. Actually he rather called upon the Ravalomanana sphere's supporters to demonstrate today on August 20th. Lire la suite »

The new Special Electoral Court as next step into the crisis settlement process: but a step forward or backward?

The power now lies in the hands of the judges of the new Special Electoral Court. A special measure is being expected from them, namely the revocation of a previous decision taken by the Special Electoral Court, without any consideration for the basic principle of "res judicata". Time is short. The SADC and AU mediators allowed themselves to enforce a new law aiming at ruling the unwanted presidential candidates out of the incoming presidential race. Proceeding in this way has already contradicted the electoral laws. Lire la suite »

Elections in 2013: the rest of the process is up to a new electoral court, yet already challenged

The Malagasy electoral process is from now on based on the enactment of a bizarre and illogical law by a transitional parliament ruled by a fake majority .For the international community represented by the ICG-M can actually also make good use of a daring legislative process to achieve its goals, namely the indictement of three unwanted candidates with illegality, the removal from the starting line, and the issue of a new electoral calendar including elections before the end of 2013. Standard procedures and the political struggles are likely to leave naught but an extremly short time to a CENIT in need of some 60 days. Lire la suite »
