Legislative elections to be held in May: the first breach of the HAT political calculation

What need was there of a second consultation round in the elections’ making up? Mrs. Monique Andréas Esoavelomandroso, mediator of the Republic argued that there were not yet unsolved political and technical issues which require proceedings and consultations. The postponement of the legislative election’s date previously ordered by the HAT in a unilateral way, became the proceedings’ main topic discussed by political parties, civilian society and national organizations which made up their fame from the observation of elections as well as citizenship life. « The vote will have to be held in May 2010, be it on Wednesday 19th or on Sunday 24th « , declared Monique Andréas Esoavelomandroso. 

The Republic’s official reported that participants asked it to be a date with the slightest possible backlash on voters’ daily life. « Sunday is, consequently off the point since people go to the church ». Wednesday seems to be the best option, as pupils and students would only miss one half of a school day. The choice May is, first and foremost, meteorologically based! The rainy season is generally over. The political parties, even those from the Rajoelina mobility’s ranks, are suspecting a dictating authorities’ ill intention to be lurking behind the choice of March 20th. Transport and communication difficulties would actually sway in favour of the ruling regime.  

The RPSD Vaovao party’s president, Jean Eugene Voninahitsy, argued that there were only a couple of means to complete an electoral campaign during the rainy season: on foot or by helicopter. His counterpart, Pety Rakotoniaina, emphasized that « an organization of a serious election has to be conducted by the end of  May or by the beginning of June ». The Tambatra party’s president, appear more critical against the HAT. « We must draw lessons from the past », said the PDS of Fianarantsoa. « We have to drop political calculations; otherwise reversing Marc Ravalomanana would have been vain. When we need a change, we have to go for it for real ». Both of the political mavericks are bound to reintegrate the national assembly, so they are asking Andry Rajoelina to capitalize the amnesty for former political prisoners in a law. 

Although they do not completely agree with Andry Rajoelina’s roadmap, the members of his mobility are turning out some proposals without standing against it The participants to the latest consultation would like the HAT to legally capitalize the double mandate granted to the future deputies as members of the constituent assembly constituent, and as the 4th Republic’s first parliamentarians. « We are not against it, but we would like an organization of a national conference, and then a constitutional referendum prior to the elections », explained Pety Rakotoniaina. The husband of one of the HAT staff member is breaking off from Andry Rajoelina’s political calculation, and recommends the resumption of the basic politically correct scheme.
