The United States regret the failure of the international Group of contact. The State Department for foreign business still believes in a political and consensual exit from the Madagascan crisis.

Madagascan crisis: neutrality and continued optimism from the American state department

The voice of America has again been heard concerning the Madagascan crisis, no more the ambassador Niels Marquardt’s but that of the State Department. « The United States regret the suspension of the mediation process led by the African Union and the United Nations in Madagascar « .

The American government encourages the Madagascan political sides to get along on components of a consensus government for the transition. « We reaffirm our impartiality and won’t sustain any one-sided solution from any political faction « , reiterated the state department, estimating that « such measures would not allow any lasting solution based on believable and impartial elections « .

The pause observed by the international mediation is not considered as a sign of irreversible situation. The United States remain convinced that a political consensus process resulting in short term elections constitutes the only way to come out of this crisis.

Neither Andry Rajoelina, nor Marc Ravalomanana is spared by criticism, the former about his putsch against an elected president and the latter illegally for his project to reconquer power. « We condemn the unconstitutional acts that are at the origin of the present situation, and definitely reject the resort to force to solve this crisis « , noticed the American state Department.

The American government congratulates the mediation team for its restless efforts to drive Madagascar to the resolution of the political crisis. « We keep exhorting all parts to return quickly to the negotiations table « , is being read in the statement from the department of the foreign Business.

The United States continue to give an opinion on the Madagascan crisis after having been one of the first countries to take sanction against Madagascar following the unconstitutional government change. Ambassador Marquardt has been having a low profile since being sharply criticized by the authorities of the transition, even invited to leave the country.

Niels Marquardt has been very concerned by the Madagascan crisis since he’s been one of the latest to talk with Marc Ravalomanana before his run. According to diplomatic sources, the United States were ready to help the president to organize a referendum to determine if he still had the people’s confidence.

The American ambassador would have advised the Madagascan president to entrust power to a military board of directors, predicting that it will only make matters worse. Since he’s been witnessing March 17th’s Coup by CAPSAT privates in Antanimena, Niels Marquardt always got it right.
