Omer Beriziky conceded that he was not fully accepted for stemming from a HAT supportive party. He consequently started with an attempt to lower tensions, namely by declaring: “Being appointed as national unity prime minister means that I no more belong to any party.” Would this prove enough to remove resistance related to his dubious appointment process? The troika emphasized that the national unity prime minister would have to be accepted by the Opposition. The game is, on this account, far from over.
Omer Beriziky officially calls upon talks with the spheres which refrained either from blessing his appointment, or from signing the roadmap at all. “Would they want me to come to them, I would with humility,” he promised. The events following the appointment of Mangalaza in Maputo as national unity prime minister are apparently haunting Mahazoarivo. Omer Beriziky now feels compelled to have the Ravalomanana and Ratsiraka spheres and to a certain extent the Monima party behind him, within his government, as these three groups strictly challenged the appointment process.
The Rajoelina supportive political parties and the moderates are straining to get a ticket in the incoming government whereas the Opposition is still pushing for a SADC led reconsideration of the prime minister´s appointment process. Rajoelina actually claimed the choice of Omer Beriziky as his very personal one. By so doing, he revealed the prime minister´s allegiance to the TGV-UDR hard core of the HAT. The Zafy sphere´s evidence of openness violates the roadmap´s request for a prime minister stemming from any other political sphere but those supportive of the HAT´s leader.
To whom will Omer Beriziky obey? To no one, according to his own self. The new prime minister revealed to have sworn allegiance first and foremost to the roadmap and to the Malagasy people. He would have made clear to Andry Rajoelina that he would not blindly obey his orders, as the HAT´s leader arguably invited him to meet him and the armed forces´ top leaders, most likely as a deterrent. Omer Beriziky equally denied any allegiance to former president Zafy. It is seemingly no major problem for the latter who supported his candidacy. The next question is, what does the prime minister owe the professor for such a decisive boost
