The legalistic demonstrators are swiftly flexing their muscles. They paraded in the streets of the capital city from three different points to make for the Magro square, recently christened Legality Square, in Ankorondrano. It was a numerically important pacific walk, without incident, which angered the police forces close to the HAT.
The presence of International Contact Group mediators in the capital city represents another motivation for legalistic mobilization, which keeps on claiming the return of the exiled president Marc Ravalomanana to power.
The elected president’s partisans’ main concern is to demonstrate to the international community that Marc Ravalomanana still has a restless and legitimate support .
A parade has been organized through the city before the usual gathering on the Legality Square. Short circuited, the soldiers close to the High Authority of Transition didn’t repress the march. They didn’t wait that long though to react. In the evening of July 29th, the police forces replied.
True to his duty and to the HAT to the end, colonel Richard Ravalomanana had to give the tone. « The police forces are going to take their responsibility, could such non authorized marches happen again » he roared.
It was mere hinted threat. The officer’s argument is that now that police forces are being stretched to insure security, this kind of street demonstrations could pave the way for urban troubles.
In response, the legalistic demonstrators were keen on displaying how much peaceful their march has been remaining, contrary to the demonstrations of Rajoelina Andry’s supporters, before the Coup of latest mid March. The current Transition’s chief’s street demonstrations had effectively often been followed by depredation.
Since January, by the beginning of the movements opposed to Marc Ravalomanana, his stores and enterprises have been targeted by troublemakers. So had the radio and brand new national television stations.
The legalistic demonstration’s leaders, supporting the president in exile, do love to recall that since they mobilized themselves to call upon the return to constitutional order, no store has ever been looted.
