The political agreement of Maputo is far from only making satisfied little ones. Those disenchanted ones are, for the time being, straining to silence their genuine feeling.

About those disenchanted by the agreement of Maputo

Political mobilities are currently in a vast skull session to build the new Transition recommended by the political agreement of Maputo. Despite its great success, the agreement has, although, caused some disappointments, namely in the extremist wings of both main mobilities starring in the 2009 crisis.

Within hours following the signature of the agreement, the most zealous partisans of Marc Ravalomanana were rather stunned to hear that the elected president had given up his position. Specifications from participants in the Maputo Summit had to be heard to cast disappointment away.

Some indeed expected an immediate return of the president re-elected in 2006 but the story proved different. Ravalomanana’s supporters now know that they can be winners on the long term from the agreement, since the amnesty principle and a renewed involvement of Marc Ravalomanana into presidential election have been acquired.

In the same way, on the Andry Rajoelina side, the agreement of Maputo also proved quite stunning. Actually this mobility has appeared with many more disappointed members than any other one. On the pro-Rajoelina radio waves, a large number of listeners are expressing live on phone line, genuine regrets about the signature of the agreement.

Converging sources also display a real uneasiness within the government. Some ministers are all but bound to leave their seats before long.

The most troubling is without a doubt the army’s position. On the Rajoelina side, many already worried when both defence minister, colonel Noel Rakotonandrasana, and the general headquarters’ chief, colonel André Ndriarijaona, didn’t attend the first governmental meeting of Maputo’s aftermaths.

Diplomatic officials in Antananarivo also believe that the army’s position must be closely monitored as it could eventually question the process.

Everyone knows that Noel Rakotonandrasana and André Ndriarijaona were part of the first mutinous who made up the putsch of latest March in the Great Isle. They categorically opposed the possibility of Marc Ravalomanana’s return in Madagascar. The return might yet be quite possible on the medium or the long term, thanks to the agreement signed in Maputo.
