In spite of the latest events which might have thwarted the next meeting between the ousted president Marc Ravalomanana and Andry Rajoelina, putsch maker in chief, both sides ae remaining bound to renew talks. The meeting has, however, been postponeded to April 28th, 2010.

Meeting postponed in Johannesburg, the HAT still determined

The HAT officially denied the reactionary interpretation of the allegedly aborted putsch attempt, according to which it would be a loophole to skirt around the Johannesburg showdown. Andry Rajoelina will be in the match. “The HAT is determined to take part into this round for the sake of the nation’s supreme interest “. Ambohitsorohitra equally announced the meeting’s postponement to April 28th, 2010. The HAT communication service is putting forth some logistical issues unsuitable to a proper signature of agreements. The postponement has been asked by the south-African government. President Jacob Zuma actually has to make for Brazil prior to dealing with the Malagasy case.

In spite of his allies’ reluctance, Andry Rajoelina is in for the showdown. Marson Evariste, HAT member, keeps the pressure up. “Andry Rajoelina is not compelled to sign any agreement if these are not complying with the popular movement’s expectations”, he said. This young TGV’s travel is, on the other hand, definitely compulsory because” could the HAT leader fail to join Johannesburg, France would blame him”. According to Marson Evariste, “France is looking for an acceptable solution which does not cast Andry Rajoelina aside”.

The Rajoelina mobility opposed the allegations according to which the Ambohijanaka failed coup attempt would be a way to avoid the Johannesburg stage. “The Ravalomanana mobility condemns whatever attempt to thwart April 25th (28th) talks, our last chance to reach the end of the crisis “, declared Fetison Andrianirina. The man supposed to be the Transition’s Cochairman labelled the latest unrest as an operation targeting the incoming talks. He argued that nobody would benefit from this ultimate round of talks’ failure.

On Saturday April 17th, the three mobilities gave up investing the place of democracy located in Ambohijatovo, still denied to the opponents to the HAT, for the sake of denying anyone any excuse to turn the Johannesburg stage down. The Ratsiraka and Zafy mobilities are still fighting to remain in the race. According to Manoro Régis, the Maputo agreements remain the crisis’ key. “Improvements will be brought by the mobility leaders’ meeting” he argued. In this mediation supported by France, the central issues will be a head to head matter between the ousted president and the putsch maker. Both other former presidents will be part of the follow up.

Before this big appointment on south-African soil, the debate over the topics to be addressed by mobility leaders is the moment’s latest political fuel. The Rajoelina mobility keeps on straining to impose its roadmap supported by France’s proposal. The HAT is dying for a national unity government with 12 TGV, 9 TIM, and crumbs left behind for the others, including the Zafy and Ratsiraka mobilities. The opposition’s joint three mobilities are sticking to the Maputo mindset: amnesty and national reconciliation prior to an inclusive and consensual Transition. The election’s nature as a stage or an end for such a Transition is the next issue
